ΠΡΟΣΩΠΟ

Η Ασπασία Παπαδοπεράκη, γεννήθηκε στην περιοχή της Κνωσσού. Σπούδασε Γλυπτική και Σκηνογραφία στην ΑΣΚΤ και στη Beaux Arts στο Παρίσι. Είχε δασκάλους τον Καλαμαρά, τον Βασιλειάδη, τον Gilli και τον César. Χρησιμοποιεί για τη γλυπτική της στοιχεία από τις μελέτες της στην ανθρώπινη φιγούρα και από την Αιγαιοπελαγίτικη λαϊκή αρχιτεκτονική και την αρχαϊκή γλυπτική. Από το 1978 εκθέτει έργα της σε γκαλερί και Μουσεία λαμβάνοντας μέρος σε πολλές ατομικές και ομαδικές εκθέσεις στην Ελλάδα και στο εξωτερικό. Σπουδαιότεροι σταθμοί η Εθνική Πινακοθήκη, η γκαλερί Ώρα, το Ινστιτούτο Goethe, η γκαλερί Σταυρακάκη στο Ηράκλειο, ο Αστρολάβος, ο Απόλλων, το Κέντρο Ελληνικού Πολιτισμού στην Αλεξάνδρεια, ο Σύλλογος Γλυπτών, το Salon de Mai, η Bienalle της Αλεξάνδρειας. Έχει φιλοτεχνήσει το γλυπτό της Μαρίας Κάλλας για δημόσιο χώρο στην Αθήνα, και με ριζοσπαστική άποψη τη σύνθεση των προτομών του Ξυλούρη στο Ηράκλειο και του Καβάφη στην Αλεξάνδρεια. Οι προτομές-έργα της, στην Ελλάδα και στο εξωτερικό, είναι περισσότερες από εξήντα. Μνημειακά έργα της βρίσκονται στην Αθήνα, στη Θεσσαλονίκη, στη Σαμοθράκη, στην Πελοπόννησο, στην Κύπρο και κυρίως στην Κρήτη. Μελέτες της έχουν δημοσιευτεί σε βιβλία, εφημερίδες και περιοδικά (Αρχαιολογία, Εικαστικά, Διπλή Εικόνα, Τέχνη και Λόγος κ.ά.) και έχει λάβει μέρος σε παγκόσμια και πανελλήνια Συμπόσια και Συνέδρια. Έχει φιλοτεχνήσει σκηνικά, μάσκες και κοστούμια για το Θέατρο. Μεγάλο μέρος της δουλειάς της αποτελούν τα Μετάλλια με σπουδαιότερα εκείνα του Μητρόπουλου, του Σεφέρη, της Κάλλας. Είναι μέλος της Ελληνικής Εταιρείας Αισθητικής, της Εταιρείας Κρητικών Μελετών, του Επικούρειου «Κήπου των Αθηνών», του ΕΠΑΣΚΤ, του Συλλόγου Γλυπτών και του ΕΕΤΕ. Έχει βραβευθεί από την Ακαδημία Αθηνών για το σύνολο του έργου της. Πρόσφατα της απονεμήθηκε το Βραβείο Καζαντζάκη.

Aspasia Papadoperaki was born near Knossos, on Crete. She studied Sculpture and Scenography at the Athens School of Fine Arts and the Beaux Arts in Paris. There, she studied under Kalamaras, Vasileiadis, Gilli and César. In her sculpture, she draws on her studies of the human figure and on the folk architecture and archaic sculpture of the Aegean. She has been exhibiting her works in galleries and museums since 1978, and has taken part in many solo and group exhibitions in Greece and abroad. The most important of these have been at the National Gallery, Ora Gallery and Goethe Institut in Athens, the Stavrakakis Gallery in Heraklion, the Astrolabe, the Apollo, the Centre for Hellenic Culture in Alexandria, the Sculptors' Union, the Salon de Mai and the Alexandria Biennale. She created the sculpture of Maria Callas for a public space in Athens; her bust of Xylouris in Heraklion and Cavafy in Alexandria adopted a compositionally radical approach to their subjects. In all, she has wrought over sixty busts for installation in Greece and abroad. Her monumental works can be found in Athens, Thessaloniki, Samothrace, the Peloponnese, Cyprus and—especially—Crete. Her studies have been published in books, newspapers and magazines and she has participated in international and national symposia and conferences. She has designed sets, masks and costumes for the theatre. Plaques are another important part of her work, the most important being those she has made for Mitropoulos, Seferis and Callas. She is a member of the Hellenic Society for Aesthetics, the Society of Cretan Historical Studies, the Epicurean "Garden of Athens", the Athens School of Fine Arts Alumni Association, the Sculptors' Union, and the Chamber of Fine Arts of Greece.
She has been honoured by the Academy of Athens for her life's work and awarded the Kazantzakis Prize.
